Rain Painting

It's another rainy day here today, and I've been waiting for just such a day to try out this really neat rain painting idea I saw a while back.  It needs to be a light rain day, as not to wash all the paint away, and today was perfect!

I set my kids up with some paint, brushes and paper.  Their directions were to paint a design on the paper, making sure to cover the entire paper in paint.

While they were beginning to dry, but were still a bit tacky, I put each of their papers on a cookie sheet and set it out in the rain.  The kids had fun watching through the window as their paintings transformed, to show the little drip drops and streams of rain.

I brought them in after 5-10 minutes to dry and this was our finished product!

Blow Paint Monsters

Today is a rainy day activity kind of day.  I did this craft with my kids a little while ago (we saw it in Family Fun Magazine), and they loved it!  Hey, what kid wouldn't love blowing paint around with a straw?  Instant mess!  What I loved about it, was that we only needed some of the most basic supplies.

To make blow paint monsters you need large sheets of paper, paint, small bowls, spoons, straws, markers, glue, googly eyes and some old newspaper (to cover your work surface).

Fill your small bowls with paint and enough water to make it a more watery consistency.  Spoon a small amount of paint onto the paper and have your child point the straw at the paint, then blow.  The paint should splatter and create a funky blob that can be turned into a cool paint monster.

After the paint dries, the kids can add googly eyes to their monsters and use markers to add funny horns and crazy arms.  My kids spent so much time doing this and had a lot of fun with it.  I think they turned out really cute!
